User carbon
Improving Consistency in Whole Life Carbon Assessment and Reporting, Carbon Definitions for the Built Environment, Buildings and Infrastructure, Version ‘A’, May 2021, published by WLCN, LETI and RIBA, defines user carbon as: ‘…those GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions relating to users’ utilisation of infrastructure and the service it provides during operation.’
PAS 2080:2023 Carbon management in buildings and infrastructure, second edition, published by The British Standards Institution in March 2023, defines user carbon as: ‘…greenhouse gas emissions associated with users’ utilization of an asset, network and/or system, and the service it provides during operation… NOTE Although user carbon is not directly controlled by asset owners/managers, they might have a direct influence on user carbon emissions, particularly through collaboration with relevant stakeholders.’
